Captain Alexander McDougall had a dream. Over 120 years ago, the young shipmaster believed a unique class of ships called whalebacks would one day rule the Great Lakes. Today, the SS Meteor is the last remaining aspect of McDougall’s vision, and Superior Public Museums is keeping that vision alive. Over the past year, some of SPM’s dedicated staff have been taking McDougall’s dream a step further by revitalizing the SS Meteor’s Engine Room. Because of their talent, dedication, and perseverance–much like that of Alexander McDougall–our amazing team has been able to restore the Engine Room and begin to make the engines move again! We invite you to be some of the first people to see the SS Meteor’s engine come alive for an in-depth demonstration. McDougall’s dream has been revitalized at Superior Public Museums, and we want you to help us finish the job! Join us for an evening of celebration and fundraising.
