A Plant Breeders Garden in Sunny California, presented by Scott Trees, Ph.D. Scott, grew up on a farm in Central Illinois where his parents and grandparents always had big gardens which included flowers. Scott attended the University of Illinois as an undergraduate and then obtained his PhD in Plant Genetics from UC Davis. His first ornamental plant breeding position was at Ferry-Morse Seed Co. in San Juan Bautista, CA, from there he joined Ball in 1978 and has worked for them ever since in various positions including VP of Research for Pan American Seed, Research Director for Ball Flora Plant, and currently Director of New Crops. He has introduced over 300 patented varieties for Ball. In his presentation he will first show a video which shows off all his plants in his California garden, of which a lot of the plants are ones that he has hybridized, including a lot of his own rose bushes. In the next part he will be giving us a live tour to show us what is growing and what is currently blooming in his gardens. He will be happy to answer any plant and garden questions that you may have. All presentations will be held via Zoom.
